Mental health continues to be the most common reason patients visit their GP

In September, the RACGP released the second edition of General Practice: Health of the Nation 2018. The report provides insightful information about general practice in Australia and emphasises the important role GPs play in the life and wellbeing of their patients.

Psychological issues, such as depression, mood disorders and anxiety, remain the most common reason patients are visiting their GP. Almost identical findings are featured in last year’s General Practice: Health of the Nation 2017 report. Additionally, the 2018 report identified mental health as the health issue causing GPs the most concern for the future, followed closely by obesity.
